NIKEiD
Award-winning packaging design
I created a shoe box design to evoke the true spirit of the Nike Mercurial – a football boot inspired by fast cars. Engineered to reflect the qualities of a high performance vehicle, the boot is crafted to give explosive speed, and specially contoured for ultimate traction and control in all weather conditions.
The packaging was manufactured using chemiwood, a resin-based board commonly used in commercial model making. It resembled the contoured, sleek shape of a car bonnet and once completed, the boxes were sprayed in the custom colours chosen by customers, using actual car paint from super-cars like Ferrari.
A competition was held across eight countries for a football-loving fan to win a pair of the desirable iD Mercurial boots. Each of these were delivered to the winners in a customised box by a professional footballer who arrived in a super-car. All wrapped in the same NIKEiD colours chosen by the winner.
🏆 The packaging has been awarded and featured in design books.
